RIT senior Nina Hullett is on the path to becoming a registered dietitian.
She will soon earn her BS degree in nutrition management and the credentials to move closer to her goal.
Hullett, a resident of Hilton, N.Y., is a member of the second class of nutrition management students to complete its undergraduate coursework in the Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition in the College of Health Sciences and Technology. The program was previously housed in the College of Applied Science and Technology.
Hullett began her college career at Monroe Community College before transferring to RIT.
“When I was accepted into RIT, I started to believe more in my capabilities,” she said. “Over the past two years at RIT, I’ve become more involved in the field of dietetics. I love all aspects of nutrition.”
Hullett has rarely missed an opportunity to challenge herself. She has volunteered at food banks, taught cooking classes, worked as a nutrition assistant and presented her research at the RIT Research Spotlights: Health and Life Sciences conference in April.
“I’ve been endlessly inspired by all the professors within the Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition,” Hullett said. “They have helped me on a personal and professional level that has solidified my motivation to continue a career path in nutrition.”
Her next stop is the Pennsylvania State University. She will start an 11-month internship in July to gain experience in community nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, nutrition management and nutrition research. The internship is the second credential she needs before sitting for the registered dietitian exam and earning her license to practice in the nutrition field.
Hullett hopes to someday work in higher education or counseling services.
