Thank you for your feedback – Community Gathering

Dear Students,

As many of you know, we held a “community gathering” this afternoon in Ingle Auditorium to listen to your thoughts, ideas and concerns related to mental health programs and services.

It was an opportunity to engage in a listening session in an atmosphere of openness, care and brave dialogue where we heard your thoughts, concerns and ideas as they relate to the programs and practices for supporting the well-being and health of our community.

I wish to thank all the students, faculty and staff that attended this important community conversation. And a special note of gratitude to those who shared their personal stories. You showed amazing courage to come forward and speak from the heart.

RIT is committed to creating a community that promotes and supports mental health well-being and fostering a culture of caring. However, we know that there is more to be done to continuously improve in this arena. President Munson will be announcing some immediate enhancements to the delivery of services and the promotion of resources next week.

We are here to support one another. I urge everyone to reach out to those individuals that you may know who are feeling down and console them, visit with them, share your compassion and listen to them. The significance of an offer of help cannot be overemphasized. Members of the Division of Student Affairs will be available in the lobby area outside of Gracie’s on Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Stop by, share your thoughts, grab something to eat or just talk.

By reaching out and supporting one another, we will find the strength to understand and to grow as a community.

Warmly,

Dr. Sandra (Sandy) Johnson
Senior Vice President for Student Affairs
