Equity Issues for Faculty Related to the COVID-19 Pandemic
AdvanceRIT has been asked by Associate Provost Carmie Garzione to identify challenges arising for faculty related to the COVID-19 pandemic and suggest strategies for mitigating these issues. COVID-19 has impacted faculty not only by making it difficult to support their students as they are challenged with a new online platform, but also they are faced with professional setbacks as they struggle to maintain research and deal with the “tenure clock extensions.” Some readings related to this discussion include Supporting Faculty During & After COVID-19 Don’t let go of equity. by Leslie D. Gonzales and Kimberly A. Griffin and The pandemic and the female academic by Alessandra Minello. The ASPIRE alliance, a national alliance for diverse and inclusive and of STEM faculty across the nation, is compiling resources for faculty related to COVID 19 and include resources related to Health and Well-Being, Teaching Inclusively, Transitioning to Online Teaching, and Supporting Educators. AdvanceRIT and CREW will continue to work on this over the summer and the next academic year. We encourage faculty to share experiences and their ideas related to managing their career during the pandemic with AdvanceRIT. Faculty can also contact their college CREW representative. Crew reps are listed on the CREW webpage.
