Prism

Prism & Company was established in the Spring of 1982 by Andy Crovo, Lisa Hermatz, Dave Strom, Teri (Worrell) Miracle, all of whom were from SVP '81. The formation of this song-signing group came from shared hopes and dreams that sprouted from different parts of the country.  

Out in Chicago, where Dave is from, he formed a connection with Andy, who hails from Maryland, while their schools were visiting one another. Their friendships rekindled when they both enrolled at Gallaudet.  It wasn't until they both enrolled at NTID, realized they both shared mutual dreams of being part of a sign-song performing group, and decided to make it a reality.

Around the same time, Lisa and Teri, who both hail from Michigan, met one night at a Deaf bowling event in the suburbs of Detroit. They both realized they, too, shared the same passion for music and signing songs. Through friends, they learned they were attending NTID at the same time. With that knowledge, they pledged they would stick together to make their dreams come true.

Andy and Dave...  Lisa and Teri... Two teams of dreamers were finally introduced to each other through mutual friends.  Dave invited everyone into his dorm room one fateful day, blasted his stereo system, and Prism & Company was born!

Four adolescent minds ruminated and developed a philosophical moniker for themselves, PRISM. Their mantra was "One light leads to many different colors." This was an open-ended expression which could be interpreted in many ways and theirs was "one language (ASL) providing visual access to lyrics of top rock-and-roll hits for fans from diverse hearing backgrounds."

Fast forward one year, Mark Pryor, who also hails from Chicago, and shares the same magic, joins the band! Mark, with his unforgettable red mane, rocked out the stages with the rest of them. With everyone graduating and going separate ways, Prism & Company dispersed around 1985. There were several spin-off groups, Little Prism, Signatures and others that followed at NTID and Prism West in Los Angeles which ran from 1987-1992.

We are thrilled to be reunited and create new memories during NTID's 50th Anniversary celebration. We are honored to be here to rock the house with you all! Happy Birthday, NTID!
