The NTID Career and Co-op Center is hosting the first-ever NTID Virtual Career Fair! All deaf and hard-of-hearing RIT/NTID students and alumni are invited to attend.
NCCC has been hosting the NTID Career Fair each fall for 20 years with employers from all over the country looking for students and alumni for co-op and permanent job opportunities.
This year, the NTID Virtual Career Fair will feature up to 25 employers set up in Zoom rooms, and students and alumni will have the opportunity to meet and chat with potential employers virtually in real-time.
Time and Date
The NTID Virtual Career Fair is 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. ET on October 6, 2021.
The NTID Virtual Career Fair will use RIT’s Career Connect Career Fair platform. Employers will host one-on-one video chats with students and alumni on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage all participants to set up their Career Connect profiles prior to the virtual career fair. On Career Connect, you can upload your most current resume, see which employers are attending the fair, and learn to navigate the Career Connect webpage to better prepare yourself.
Through the Career Connect platform, students and alumni can:
Pre-register for the Oct. 6th event and build or complete your Career Connect profile to allow employers to review your resume before the big day.
Search for participating employers, their job openings, what they're looking for, etc.
Join an employer's queue to meet one-on-one with a recruiter on the day of the VCF event.
After the fair, have access to your notes and send thank-you messages to recruiters.
Current students, you can log in to RIT Career Connect with a single sign-in option using your RIT email and password, and you will be directed to your profile. Once logged in, you'll be prompted to set up a new password.
RIT alumni have easy access by signing in through their active RIT account. Career Connect access is tied to an RIT email account. RIT student accounts remain active up to six months after your status changes from student to alumnus. If you are an alumnus, and you do not have an active RIT email account, go to start.rit.edu and click on the ‘Alumni Access’ link to get a new email account. Then you can log in to your Career Connect account using your username and your new "@rit.edu" email address. If you have issues accessing your account, contact the RIT Office of Career Services and Cooperative Education.
Preparing for the Virtual Career Fair
We want all of our NTID Virtual Career Fair participants to have a good experience with minimal issues. To best prepare yourself, here are some things you should do leading up to and on the day of the event.
Before the Career Fair
Update Your Resume Ensure you have an updated resume in your RIT Career Connect profile. Employers will review your resume before connecting with you for the event. Make an appointment with your NCCC Employment Advisor to have your resume reviewed before meeting with an employer.
Elevator Pitch Prep An elevator pitch is a 60-second or less introduction that quickly explains who you are, your expertise/goals, and your interest in the company. This was the No. 1 tip employers said all students should have for the NTID Virtual Career Fair. Learn how to piece your pitch together here.
On the Day of the Career Fair
Check your internet connection, and plug into a power supply.
Be camera-ready by dressing professionally with an orderly background and good lighting.
Arrive on-time (students can join the event at 12:00 pm sharp!), join a video chat queue, and take advantage of group chats.
Keep your interactions with employers short. Each video chat is on a timer, and most video chats will last about 10 minutes.
We recommend you connect to the Virtual Career Fair using a laptop or a computer for the best user experience.
