Instructions to Connect with a Tutor

  1. To connect with a tutor, please use https://slack.com/ and join NLC Math Tutoring https://join.slack.com/t/nlcmathtutoring/signup. Make sure to use your @rit.edu email. Check NLC Math Tutoring Schedule to confirm that tutors are available.
  2. Join the channel: #nlc-math-tutoring
  3. Search for Zoom meeting information in chat.
  4. Join the tutor for a tutoring session in the zoom room. Instruction on how to join a Zoom meeting are here: https://rit.zoom.us/
  5. Let the tutors know what you need help with by typing: Course - Topic; for example: Foundations of Algebra - Graphing Linear Equations.

 

On-line Tutoring Code of Conduct:

This channel is to help you to connect with a tutor in real time. It is designed to replicate the NLC Math Tutoring environment as closely as possible and as such, the following rules apply:

  1. Be Kind and Courteous. We're all in this togeher. The tutors do their best to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect and Kindness.
  2. This is first come(post), first serve service. The tutors will get to you, after they are done helping all students who came before you. if the tutors cannot help you with your problem, they will let you know.
  3. Be prepared to show the tutor where your question is coming from (either a picture from a textbook, mycourses assignment or a MyMathLab assignment). The tutors see NOT ALLOWED to help you with take-home quizzes or tests.
  4. Respect Everyone's Privacy. Do not email or contact tutors outside of their working hours. Check NLC Math tutoring Schedule to confirm that tutors are available.
