This poster will describe the Critical Mass of Engineering Technology Scholars (COMETS) Program at the Rochester Institute of Technology. This is a scholarship program funded by the National Science Foundation’s Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S-STEM) program. The COMETS project is designed to increase the number of underrepresented groups, especially women, in the Engineering Technology programs at RIT. Scholarships are available to first year and transfer students who display financial need and academic talent. A broad system of student support is established that includes mentoring, professional development workshops, outreach activities and a one credit course. This course is designed to develop academic success skills and learn more about the engineering careers while building a vibrant community of scholars.
