Examples of accomplishments in the year 2001:

  • Promoting technology transfer and workshops in order to improve the quality of postsecondary education for the deaf around the world.
  • Rochester Institute of Technology/National Technical Institute for the Deaf: $1,169,700.

In recent years, postsecondary education for the deaf has been initiated in several countries; however, improvement in curriculum and instructional technology are common challenges for universities that provide postsecondary education for deaf and hard of hearing students so that these students can receive an excellent education.

Particularly in technical institutions, advanced courses that prepare deaf students to enter the real world, with its rapidly changing science and technology, need to be established.

As a result, The Nippon Foundation provides support for the Postsecondary Education Network International---providing faculty training and development through a network of universities in Russia and China under the leadership of Rochester Institute of Technology/National Technical Institute for the Deaf and Tsukuba College of Technology. Through this project to improve postsecondary education for the deaf, we look forward to fostering deaf students' preparation to enter the real world workplace.
