On 15 June 2004, PEN-International was introduced to the assembly of the NAFSA, Region X Upstate Meeting at Rochester Institute of Technology. NAFSA: Association of International Educators is an organization of professionals that promotes the exchange of students and scholars to and from the United States.

Conference chair Lilli Jensen presented PEN to the conference attendees and PEN was one of two exhibitors at this assembly of more than 70 college and university professionals from 31 colleges and universities.
