Dean de la Torre of the School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies at De La Salle-College of St. Benilde presented a paper regarding the partnership of DLS-CSB, Filipino Deaf Community, and PEN-International in advancing higher education for the Deaf in the Philippines. The paper was presented in a special session on higher education for the Deaf at the Second International Conference on High Education of Students with Disabilities at Waseda University on 27 March 2005. Professor Leonides D. Sulse of CSB co-presented with Dean de la Torre and offered the perspective of a Deaf member of the faculty of the college. The participation of DLS-CSB was made possible through the collaboration of PEN-International and Japanese Federation of the Deaf, through its Executive Director Dr. Yutaka Osugi. Dr. Osugi was one of the lead organizers/facilitators of the conference. The presentation was well received by the conference attendees and was covered in the journal of the Japanese Federation of the Deaf.
