goldline

From 5 - 8 April 2006, a delegation of eight university faculty members and administrators from across Japan who work with postsecondary deaf and hard of hearing students, along with two Japanese Sign Language Interpreters and a representative of the Nippon Foundation of Japan, attended the Postsecondary Education Programs Network (PEPNet) 2006 Conference in Louisville, KY. (See a list of the PEPNet Japan delegation). They were joined by the leadership team from PEN-International, including James J. DeCaro, Director; E. William Clymer, Coordinator; and Denise Kavin, Senior Project Associate. Two additional PEN-International staff from NTID, Minoru Yoshida and Takuma Ohta, also accompanied the group. The PEPNet-Japan and PEN-International delegations participated in many of the conference activities and events including exhibits, pre-conference workshops, keynote and concurrent presentations, poster sessions, 'hot topics' discussion groups and meetings (See the PEPNet 2006 Program Book). With over 420 participants at the conference, there were ample opportunities for formal and informal networking with various professionals who work with deaf, hard-of-hearing and deafblind postsecondary students across the country.

Dr. DeCaro also attended the business meeting of PEPNet-Japan on 19 November since PEN-International is a major supporter of the program. At the meeting, a series of expected outcomes for the next fiscal year were discussed.
