PEN-International partners TCT and TUT conducted a joint "paper car design competition" between students of their respective institutions. In addition, pupils from elementary and secondary schools in Tsukuba participated in the competition. The competition culminated in a race that was conducted at both TCT and TUT on 13 December 2003 and broadcast via the PEN Multimedia Labs at both institutions. The paper car competition was conceived by Professor Araki of TCT.
