PEN-International Delegation Visit Herstmonceux Castle

A PEN-International delegation visited Herstmonceux Castle, The International Study Centre, Queen's University (Canada), Hailsham, East Sussex, England to prepare for the Summer Institute and to participate in the INTER 2005 Conference.

PEN-International will be hosting a Summer Leadership Institute 5-12 August, 2006, at Herstmonceux The purpose of this visit was to plan the events for the Summer Institute, a first-of-its-kind international student leadership training experience for deaf college students.

The goals of the Summer Leadership Institute are:
  1. To promote development of leadership skills among postsecondary student leaders;
  2. To focus on self-advocacy skills in the areas of support services in postsecondary education, community access and employment;
  3. To engage in learning about Deaf Culture and awareness.

Four students and faculty sponsors from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, USA and each of PEN-International's major partner programs in Japan, China, Russia and the Philippines will participate in the program. Sign language interpreters and voice language translators from each country will also be present.
