James J. DeCaro, Director, E. William Clymer, Coordinator, PEN-International and Yasunobu Ishii of The Nippon Foundation of Japan, met with Professor Tang Wai Lan, Gladys, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages on March 2, 2005 in Hong Kong. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the work Professor Tang is conducting in the Centre of Sign Language and Deaf Studies, within the Department of Linguistics. Of particular interest is the ongoing development of a project at the university entitled, Practical Dictionaries of Asian Pacific Sign Languages, which is supported by The Nippon Foundation of Japan. It was agreed that PEN-International and the Department of Linguistics will explore future collaboration, starting with the attendance of Professor Tang and a student at the June, 2005 Instructional Technology Symposium, to be held in Rochester in June. Professor Tang will present at the Symposium regarding her work at the Centre.
