On 11 December, PEN director DeCaro and NTID president Hurwitz introduced RIT President Destler and RIT Vice president Cauda to Chairman Sasakawa at The Nippon Foundation Headquarters. President Destler thanked Sasakawa-san for the continuing support that the foundation has provided for RIT's efforts to improve deaf education through NTID's PEN-International. As a small token of gratitude, he presented Sasakawa-san with an RIT tiger.

Prior to that meeting, the RIT delegation visited National Tsukuba University of Technology where they met with President Ohnuma and his staff. N-Tut students and staff briefed the delegation on progress of PEN-Japan and PEPNet-Japan.
