On 5 November, PEN-International Director DeCaro visited with Roberto Wirth and the Executive Director of the Wirth Foundation Stefania Fadda, to discuss the direction of the foundation. Discussions were also held regarding the establishment of the "Sense of Wirth Foundation" that is being established in the USA.

While in Rome, he also visited the elementary school section of the Rome School for the Deaf. Four Generations of Deaf DeCaros have attended the school.

In addition, he met with Elena Radutsky, the executive director of the Mason-Perkins Deafness Foundation. NTID has worked collaboratively with the foundation to bring RIT students who are deaf to Italy to study in an international exchange program.

Finally, DeCaro met with five researchers at the linguistic institute (3 deaf and 2 hearing) who are working on the documentation of Italian Sign Language.
