Robb Adams, chairperson of Counseling Services at NTID and Associate Professor, NTID, and Lee Twyman, counselor and RIT Student Ombudsperson, RIT Student Problem Resolution Office, presented an overview of the issues related to provision of counseling services to deaf students at the postsecondary level. Topics included: Student Development, Mental Health and Deafness, Psychological/Career Assessment and Deafness, and Theories, Strategies and Techniques in Counseling the Deaf.

Attendees at this two-day workshop included professional and para-professionals in counseling and mental health from school, college and agency settings. Other participants were from schools programs for the deaf in the greater Manila area. Much lively discussion and interaction took place.

Ideas and strategies were shared and a clear desire for further information and action were expressed. At the end of the two-day workshop, a small working group of individuals, both deaf and hearing, gathered and agreed to continue meeting to address the counseling and mental health issues and needs of deaf people in the Philippines.
