Delegation from Japan Studies Support Services at NTID

On 15, 16 and 17 April a delegation from PEN partner TCT and from three support service centers in Japan visited PEN-International headquarters to study the support services offered to mainstreamed deaf students at RIT. TCT was represented by Professors Araki and Sumihiro. The Support Center for Students with Disability at Nippon Social Welfare University was represented by Professor Ohizumi. Mr. Matsuzaki represented the Miyagi-Sendai Deaf Students Support Center and Dr. Shirazawa represented the Kanto Support Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students.

Mr. Ishii and Ms. Tsutsui of The Nippon Foundation also participated in the training sessions which covered the wide range of services offered by NTID in support of deaf students who are enrolled in the other colleges of RIT.

Discussions were held regarding the desirability of and potential for establishmingf an All Nippon Technical Assistance Center for students in postsecondary education in Japan. There will be continuing discussion of this potential PEN initiative during the current year.
