Accurate, precise color reproduction on paper has long been a challenge. In his new book, Printing-Process Control and Standardization, Robert Chung demystifies and explains the process. A veteran technical expert and university professor, Chung offers educators and industry professionals some guidance and instructional tools for teaching print media and graphic communication. This book provides color reproduction strategies for traditional offset and modern digital print production and includes color examples to illustrate measurement tools, process-control, color management and standardization.

“Contemporary process-color printing is inextricably tied to printing color standards . . . Bob Chung is uniquely qualified to bring together the myriad of details that comprise printing process control and standardization.”
—Charles Spontelli, Associate Professor Emeritus, Bowling Green State University, book review in Visual Communications Journal, Spring 2021, Volume 57, Number 1. (pages 17–19)
"Professor Robert Chung is THE authority on printing standards and process control in the printing industry. Printing-Process Control and Standardization is the ultimate seminal work on a topic of significance for those studying color measurement and printing standardization as a student or as a practitioner in the field wanting to improve print quality consistency. As the printing and related graphic communication industries continue to evolve to science and manufacturing, product quality consistency has grown in importance whether for short-run digital printing or for long-run traditional printing. Printing-Process Control and Standardization covers product specifications expected by today’s print buyers and users. The book teaches how the use of standards improves print product quality, helps control costs, and leads to more satisfied customers."
— Harvey R. Levenson, Ph. D., Professor Emeritus, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, California
"An excellent resource for educators and researchers that provides comprehensive explanations for all aspects of color measurement and color management. This is the only place where you can find all the relevant printing standards in one place. The student worked examples are a welcome bonus."
—Abhay Sharma, Ph.D., Professor, School of Graphic Communications Management, Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada
"Printing color is black magic, some say. Reproducing the real world on paper using only four inks has long been a challenge. The pioneering work of Professor Robert Chung has brought photo-realistic color printing into the 21st Century. He has educated at least two generations of students who have brought his concepts and statistical and measurement methods to printing companies around the world. His students are the apostles of color printing and the world is a more colorful place because of it. His work has applied science to allow the art of printing. And now it is all encapsulated in a book."
—Frank Romano, Professor Emeritus, School of Media Sciences, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York
"The new textbook from Robert Chung, Printing-Process Control and Standardization, fills a gap in the literature available for students of graphic media. It is a wide-ranging treatise on subjects related to measurement, process control, color management, and standardization in publishing, packaging, and commercial printing. Chung’s book covers both traditional methods and modern digital production methods. Furthermore, he illuminates the complex structure of standardization on a global scale. This book is valuable for college students at undergraduate and graduate levels. It draws on Chung’s deep experience with both industrial applications and educational techniques."
–Anthony P. Stanton, PhD, Teaching Professor Emeritus of Graphic Media Management, Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
"The book contains all the information which is needed to understand standardization in the printing industry. I think there is no other book or any other means to find all this information in one place. Therefore, the book is of high value. Robert Chung has the knowledge as a longtime professor at RIT and the experience as a member of almost all in the book mentioned standardization organizations and as author of the RIT Printing Standards Audit (PSA) Certification to write this book. The content is highly scientific. But there are many how-to-do descriptions. With them practitioners are able to adopt the standardization to their shop floor."
–Erwin Widmer, Former Managing Director, Ugra, St. Gallen, Switzerland
"Finally! Robert "Bob" Chung has created a book that presents the relevant information required to inform educators, students, and practitioners on the current state printing process control and standardization for the 2020’s. Basing the book on his decades of experience as an educator, researcher, and industry standardization leader, Bob is uniquely qualified to bring the disparate areas of knowledge together to provide this single volume that is relevant for students and seasoned industry professionals alike. I anticipate that this book will be eagerly adopted in all constituencies of the graphic communication world, and will provide a much-needed foundation to inspire researchers seeking relevant projects to further knowledge and improve quality and enhance communication throughout the industry."
–Bruce Leigh Myers, Ph.D., Administrative Chair, School of Media Sciences, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York
"Informative and up to date, Professor Chung’s Printing-Process Control and Standardization has wonderfully captured significant aspects in process control and today’s printing standards. It’s certainly one of the most well written reference books in printing."
–Wandee Poolpol, President of Technical Association of Graphic Arts, Global Product Manager at Eckart America
