Cards and Gifts

In the 1930s, much of rural America lacked electricity, power, and running water. The Rural Electrification Administration hired graphic designer Lester Beall to create a series of posters illustrating the benefits of electrification. These posters are from the first of three series, created in 1937. The original posters are held in the Lester Beall Archive, at RIT Cary Graphic Arts Collection.

These beautiful, simple stationery sets are printed by hand in limited runs at the Cary Collection, drawing from our historical collection of metal and wood type. Sheets are blank, with a color illustration at top. Colors may vary. 4 sheets with envelopes.

Your friends and family will cherish these cards, with a unique sentiment that is elegantly typeset. Letterpress printed at the RIT Cary Graphic Arts Collection, in green, yellow, and black ink on cream paper. Envelopes are included.

Printing was done at the Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum by Richard Kegler, during the APA Wayzgoose event. The newly cast 120 point initials were set up on a Vandercook proofing press and run with black ink on 100# Mohawk Superfine paper. The large G printed with silver ink is a photochemically etched block from the newly redrawn Goudy Initials. The colophon also printed in silver is hand set Bank Gothic and reads:
