David won the award because he made Blast Gauge, a sensor system that captures and interprets data from someone's body after they've experienced a concussion. This data helps medical professionals aid a patient quickly and accurately. Borkholder's system has been sold to military organizations through a company Borkholder started called BlackBox Biometrics.
