The Research to Prevent Blindness/Reader's Digest Partners for Sight Foundation and RPB/Consumer Technology Association Foundation Innovations in Technology Low Vision Research Award promotes the development of assistive devices for persons with low vision, with a focus on mobile and/or wearable innovations that can be implemented on multiple platforms, such as electronic tablets or phones. Two awards, up to $150,000 each, over one year will be provided. Proposals can include environmental adaptations which can improve a visually impaired individual's ability to perform a daily living activity.
The Award particularly encourages interdisciplinary collaboration among engineers, ophthalmologists or optometrists, and rehabilitation specialists (e.g., OTs, VRT's, special education professionals, etc.) that bring together technical knowledge and the lived experience of persons with low vision.
Preliminary applications are due October 16, 2017.
