Several researchers from NTID presented at the Theoretical Issues in Sign Language Research Conference Sept. 26-28 in Hamburg, Germany. Kim Kurz and Matt Dye, associate professors, presented “Sign language avatars activate phonological and semantic representation: Evidence from working memory and priming paradigms.” (The paper was co-authored by Matt Huenerfauth, professor, School of Information.) Corrine Occhino, research faculty, presented “Perceptual optimization of American Sign Language: Evidence from a lexical corpus.” And Geo Kartheiser, postdoctoral fellow, presented a poster on “Author recognition is a significant predictor of reading fluency in deaf college-aged students.”
