We’re taking down the “pardon our dust” signs

Those of you with keen eyes might have noticed signs of construction on www.rit.edu/ritonline/ these past few months as we completed the finishing touches to the first phase of RIT Online. Well, I’m delighted to say that we’re now open for business and here to serve you on your career journey. Today’s announcement has been a long time in the making and represents years of development, refinement and testing. RIT Online embodies RIT’s extended experience with distance learning, and our deep, in-house expertise in enabling immersive online interaction, collaboration and knowledge transfer.

We think it’s a great time for RIT to expand its online education program. Despite the improving economy, many graduates are unemployed and are looking for ways to acquire new skills to better compete in the jobs marketplace. For these people, the ability to demonstrate technical mastery and hands-on experience in sought-after skills is a key driver for landing a new job or taking their career in a new direction. For many, online learning represents a convenient and cost-effective way to achieve their educational objectives.

We understand that any prospective online student has many options to choose from. When we mapped out the design and development of RIT Online, we established some guiding objectives:

  1. Market-leading content. All the content you see on RIT Online is developed and delivered by the same expert faculty that teaches on RIT’s campuses around the world.

  2. Make it convenient. People are busier than ever these days as they pack more into their lives. That’s why we offer flexible scheduling and delivery models, coupled with accelerated programs, modular courses and multiple entry points.

  3. Make it customizable. We’ve designed our courses so that students can tailor it for the exact qualification they need. For example, you can select stackable certificates (that can lead to a degree) as well as demand-based skills or competencies (which are great for polishing a résumé).

  4. Make it real. We want to raise the bar for online learning. When you take an RIT Online course, you’ll have insightful interactions with classmates around the world and receive in-depth feedback from your professor. We want you to forget you’re not actually sitting in a classroom.

And we’re not standing still. We have a lot in store for you in the months ahead, including enhancements to our virtual campus, many more courses, and new ways for you to leverage the broad RIT alumni network as you pursue your dream job.

For now, I invite you to explore the courses and programs we currently offer and learn more about how RIT Online works.
