The goal of the CASTLE/WISe Journal Club is to bring together the College of Science community to collectively discuss a yearly theme. Each year’s theme focuses on a different aspect of building an inclusive environment to foster students’, staffs’, and faculty’s achievement of greatness.
Format: A weekly meeting combining small and large group discussions on papers focusing on relevant themes. Primary articles will be chosen for their accessibility to faculty from all disciplines as well as their connection to peer-reviewed research results (which will be available as supplemental documents). Small group discussions will allow all participants to collectively:
- Identify common themes in the articles, and compare/contrast with the existing literature
- Discuss how these themes resonate with personal classroom experiences
- Explore practical research-based applications/pedagogies for implementation in the classroom
Organizers will facilitate large-group discussions that share the ideas developed in the small group discussions. A summary of each weeks disucssion will be created by the organizers and posted below.
2017 meeting times are every other Monday at 11:00 am in Gosnell (8) 3000. Cookies and coffee will be served. All are welcome to join us!
