My interests (both research and business related) are focused on inorganic metal oxides and metals in the 2-5 nm diameter range. This size regime is located very near the Feynmanian “bottom” , where reactivity appears to be maximum yet the particles are accessible through straight-forward solution syntheses.
The appropriately doped metal oxides can be used to facilitate free radial reactions such as combustion, and achieve mitigation of diesel soot levels or to down regulate excess free radical reactions in vivo and alleviate the symptoms of some neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS and MS. Cerion Energy was formed to commercialize the enhanced free radical chemistry while Cerion NRx addresses the latter. Other pathologies such as cancer and Alzheimers are addressable with this chemistry and are being investigated.
Unagglomerated and fully reduced, 2-5 nm metal particles, (4th period elements such as Ti, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn , Sn and their alloys) find numerous applications in 2d conductive traces and flexible electronics as well as 3D or additive manufacture. These applications, the print engines needed to enable this manufacturing technology along with the creation novel nanoalloys, are also areas of active work pursued within the recently formed commercial start-up, Zero Valent NanoMetals.
