Real-World Experience Before You Graduate
One of our strengths as a program is the preparation we give our students for success in real-world work before graduation day. As a student, you have the opportunity to earn credit while being paid for taking on cooperative education (co-op), giving you meaningful and resume-building work experience, helping you gain perspective and focus as you look ahead at your future career options. RIT has one of the oldest and largest co-op programs in the US, so we know what we're doing here.
In a co-op, which is different from summer employment or an internship, you are employed full-time, paid, and expected to produce some deliverable relevant to your experience level to your employer by the end of the co-op term (which is often just one semester). Since you are working full-time, you maintain full-time student status, but are not required to pay tuition. You are not only earning real money, but saving it, too!
Our students have taken co-ops at a large number of companies throughout the years, including Johnson & Johnson, Vaccinex, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer, USDA, and many more. Check out what our students and alumni have to say about their co-op work experiences and how it has benefitted their work in the classroom and beyond.
The RIT Office of Career Services and Cooperative education sponsors and promotes two prominent University-wide career fairs each year, once in the fall and once in the spring. Our College of Science has also begun organizing science-oriented career fairs, providing you a more focused and dedicated networking experience with companies that really want you.
