Graduates of the RIT School of Chemistry and Materials Science earn B.S. degrees in chemistry and biochemistry that prepare them for careers in industry as research scientists, analysts, and managers. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the average starting salary in these professions is $50,600.
Our graduates also continue into postgraduate programs, such as a Ph.D. in chemistry. Others find their way into the fields of materials science, business, sustainability, medicine, or pharmaceuticals.
While not required for chemistry and biochemisrty majors, the cooperative education program offers real-life work experience both locally and across the country. Co-op experiences are strongly encouraged for SCMS students, because it provides invaluable professional experience. The co-op and placement office will assist interested students in locating positions to apply for. Undergraduate research engagement is also a pathway to gaining excellent experience for future scientists.
