Application deadline: March 5, 2017
The School of Chemistry and Materials Science offers a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program over a 10-week period each summer. This SITE REU is founded upon RIT's strength as a robust research institution with a strong history of undergraduate research. The REU has, at its core, the development of improved materials targeted for organic photovoltaic devices. OPV technology promises to play a vital role as society addresses the need for renewable energy as it deals with the problems caused through anthropogenic climate change associated with burning of fossil fuels.
The unifying subject of Organic Photovoltaics is incredibly rich with contributions from chemists, physicists, mathematicians, computational theorists and engineers and is a natural focus for our assembled faculty team. Student projects are designed to expose REU students to hypothesis development, experimental design, and execution phases, producing significant results suitable for publication or conference presentation.
REU participants receive a stipend of $5,000, plus on-campus housing and a travel allowance.
The first offer letters will be sent out on March 15, 2017. Applications will continue to be reviewed until the positions are filled. Please note that the program has been brought forward to start on May 30, 2017 and end on August 5, 2017 to ensure the highest standards of accommodation for participants, at RIT.
