National champions. It has a nice ring to it. Soon, actual rings will be ordered for members of the RIT women’s hockey team. The Tigers claimed the 2012 NCAA Division III championship after an unforgettable season.

The foundation of the championship was built on resiliency. The Tigers (28-1-1) were motivated after the final whistle a year ago in the 2011 NCAA Division III championship game, where their quest fell short.

This is the university’s 3rd NCAA championship, and first for a women’s team. The women join the 1983 men’s hockey team, which claimed the Division II crown, and the 1985 men’s hockey team, which won the Division III title.
