Calculus = Passion

Published Jul. 2, 2010

Melissa Dempsey of Potsdam, NY has always enjoyed and excelled in math. Now she’s applying her skill as an electrical engineer.

Mentored by Professor Robert Bowman, Dempsey has worked in high-tech labs, such as RIT’s Analog Devices Integrated Microsystems Laboratory.

Dempsey specializes in electronic design and recently finished a project creating filters for TVs and radios. Her experiences have given her “the chance to see our ideas become real products that will hopefully impact technology in the future.”

Professor Bowman has taught Dempsey that math skills can lead to “so many interesting possibilities.”

RIT’s female science, engineering, and math students break other stereotypes. To find out more, read our previous article on the subject.
