This week's Staff Feature Friday is Emily Heyman, Assistant Director of Events, University Arenas. Emily is Staff Council's new Vice Chair, and we aer so lucky to have her!
Tell us a little about your RIT career…how long have you worked here, what roles have you done?
I have been at RIT for a little over six years. I began as the Event Services manager in the Gordon Field House and am now the Assistant Director for Events in the Gordon Field House. We manage all of the events and activities that take place in that space.

This month, we have a special staff feature - Carol Reed! Carol has been a fixture on campus since 1981 and I personally have many memories of crossing paths with her during my involvement in student clubs. She will be retiring at the end of June, and RIT will miss her very much. Best wishes, Carol!

Special Election – 1 year term
Our work and personal lives have been greatly affected by COVID-19 (novel coronavirus). Most of us are now working from home, with some essential staff remaining on campus. This may be a difficult time for some of us, and you probably have a lot of questions. We want to reassure you that RIT Staff Council is continuing to meet virtually, as are all other shared governance groups. It is important for us to stay the course as we figure out what our “new normal” is for a while.
It is a key priority of your RIT Staff Council to communicate clearly with and on behalf of our constituents, RIT staff and highlight the important work of our staff and how they contribute to the RIT community. To achieve both of these goals, Staff Council is delighted to bring you this series that will highlight a member of the RIT community in a short, but informative interview. We continue our series by introducing you to Omar Phillips, ITS Service Desk Manager.
In the last year, RIT Staff Council has been pretty busy!
Staff council representatives contributed to the search for RIT’s new president, and participated in the Middle States reaccreditation process. Representatives have also been involved in the Silicon Valley engagement initiative, and the space audit steering committee.
