General program overview
Parent and family members are critical partners in the development and well being of their students. Whether entering college for the first time or transferring from one school to another, having support from home helps students succeed at RIT. The Parent and Family Programs office provides programming, communications, and support to parents and families of RIT students. By providing information about resources and the student experience, we hope that families will know how to direct students when issues arise, and will understand how parents and family members can support their student’s personal, academic, and professional growth.
Family members are encouraged to participate in our Family Orientation program, which is separate from our New Student Orientation program (you will not go through Orientation with your student). Family Orientation is designed to introduce you to your student's academic program, the resources and services at RIT, and other new RIT families.
Family Orientation is August 22-23. Family Orientation is intended to introduce families to their student’s academic program, the resources and services at RIT, and life on campus. While there are many events and programs for students and families to attend together during the day on Tuesday, students will begin New Student Orientation separate from parents beginning on Tuesday evening. The schedule and registration for Family Orientation are now available.
Along with Family Orientation, please connect to the Parent and Family Programs office with these additional resources:
