Parents of Incoming Students
Welcome to RIT! I’m happy that you have found your way to the Parent Newsletter. As the parent of an incoming student, you will also be receiving communications throughout the summer to help prepare you—and your student—for life at RIT. Keep an eye out for a postcard from the Parent & Family Programs office this month and, beginning in June, the Family Orientation Summer Newsletter. In order to ensure you receive this emailed newsletter, make sure your student updates their Family Relationship information at: www.rit.edu/studentcontact.
Please also visit the Family Orientation website for checklists and Family Orientation schedule highlights and save the date for Family Orientation—August 21-22.
Career Services for Graduates
Graduation can be a stressful time for students who are answering the question “What are you doing after graduation?” Some students are proud to say that they are all set with plans of employment, graduate school or the military, etc. Other students have some leads and options but haven’t made a decision yet. There are also students who have been focused on getting to graduation and haven’t put much thought or energy into what happens after they walk across the stage.
The Office of Career Services and Cooperative Education is not just for current RIT students, but also extends its services to RIT alumni. Alumni have access to Handshake, Career Fairs, webinars, RIT Alumni Network, and more. Additionally, Career Services Coordinators support specific academic departments and are available to meet on a one-to-one basis regarding post-graduation plans. Students can make an appointment by logging into their Handshake account or by calling 585-475-2301.
