Bill Garno begins his 23nd season at the helm of Rochester Institute of Technology men’s soccer team. Garno is one of only two coaches in RIT history to eclipse the 100-win plateau, and sits in second place in victories behind the late Doug May, for whom Garno played. Garno has also led the Tigers to three appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament (2000, 2001 and 2004), and three Empire 8 titles. In 2017, the RIT Coaching Staff was recognized a co-Coaching Staff of the Year in the Liberty League.

Under Garno’s tutelage, 60 different Tigers have earned All-Empire 8/Liberty League honors since the 1999 season. He has coached four Empire 8 Players of the Year, three Empire 8 Rookies of the Year and 3 Academic All Americans.

From 1983 to 1986, Garno was a defender on the Tigers soccer team, helping lead RIT to an impeccable 59-8-6 record, four conference titles and four appearances in the NCAA Tournament. After a successful collegiate career at RIT, he turned to coaching. Prior to taking over at RIT in the spring of 1996, he served as an assistant coach at the University of Rochester from 1992 to 1995.

Garno is active in the youth soccer scene, currently coaching for FC Dynamo ROC and also having coached in the Rochester Junior Rhinos, Empire United Soccer Academy and the Hilton Heat soccer clubs. Garno served as a head coach for the New York State West Olympic Development Program.
