    October 6-8th 2018

    MSoccerFall20184

    RIT Men’s Soccer invites you to join us for a great athletic experience.  Our Fall ID Clinic Prospect Weekend provides the opportunity for prospective student athletes to watch a game against a key Liberty League opponent, experience our training approach, be evaluated by the RIT soccer coaching staff, and attend an Admissions Open House.

    Training sessions will provide players an opportunity to improve their technical ability and tactical knowledge of the game. RIT’s coaching staff will instruct & evaluate players within a challenging environment that promotes playing in both small-sided and full-sided game scenarios. Prospective players and their families will participate in a Q&A session with the coaching staff and current student athletes from our team.

    This weekend will provide a comprehensive experience for prospective student athletes considering RIT including:

    • The opportunity to see our current team play Liberty League opponent St. Lawrence University at 2 PM, Sat, Oct 6;
    • Participation in our ID Clinic on Sun, Oct 7;
    • Attend RIT’s Fall Open House on Mon, October 8.

    Attendance at our game on Saturday and at the Fall Open House on Monday is optional. Note that registration for the Open House on Mon, Oct 8 is required through RIT Admissions (register here).

    Bill Garno

    Bill Garno begins his 23nd season at the helm of Rochester Institute of Technology men’s soccer team. Garno is one of only two coaches in RIT history to eclipse the 100-win plateau, and sits in second place in victories behind the late Doug May, for whom Garno played. Garno has also led the Tigers to three appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament (2000, 2001 and 2004), and three Empire 8 titles. In 2017, the RIT Coaching Staff was recognized as co-Coaching Staff of the Year in the Liberty League.

    Under Garno’s tutelage, 60 different Tigers have earned All-Empire 8/Liberty League honors since the 1999 season. He has coached four Empire 8 Players of the Year, three Empire 8 Rookies of the Year and 3 Academic All Americans.

    From 1983 to 1986, Garno was a defender on the Tigers soccer team, helping lead RIT to an impeccable 59-8-6 record, four conference titles and four appearances in the NCAA Tournament. After a successful collegiate career at RIT, he turned to coaching. Prior to taking over at RIT in the spring of 1996, he served as an assistant coach at the University of Rochester from 1992 to 1995.

    Garno is active in the youth soccer scene, currently coaching for FC Dynamo ROC and also having coached in the Rochester Junior Rhinos, Empire United Soccer Academy and the Hilton Heat soccer clubs. Garno served as a head coach for the New York State West Olympic Development Program.
