2024 RIT Strength, Speed and Power Camp

    May 20th - August 23rd (Monday-Friday)
    Grades 9-12 and College

    Description

The RIT Speed, Strength and Power Camp offers summer strength and conditioning opportunities for high school and collegiate student athletes. This is a comprehensive program designed to meet individual strength and conditioning needs for both men and women.  The program provides and develops athletes with a fundamental foundation that will allow them to reach their full potential.  The program is run by RIT's Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, Ryan Kelly.

Open to all individuals from 9th grade through college, RIT’s SSP Camp has 8, 10 and 12 week training programs designed to help prepare athletes for their upcoming competitive season.

All training sessions will be conducted by one of our experienced and certified strength and conditioning professionals, allowing athletes to get the coaching and feedback necessary to take their game to the next level.

Programs are designed following the same core principles utilized by RIT’s Strength and Conditioning department:

    1. Injury Prevention – training to prepare for the rigors of sport and minimize the number of non-contact injuries
    2. Evidence Based Practice – training programs will be rationalized through current scientific research and best applied practices
    3. Coaching – building trusting relationships while encouraging competitiveness
    4. Education – providing student-athletes with a progressive learning experience designed to increase awareness and enhance well-being
    5. Adaptability – continued evaluation and improvement of training practices to remain on the forefront of sports performance programming

    Staff

Ryan Kelly has worked as a strength and conditioning professional since 2015.  He is currently in his sixth year as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at RIT, coordinating efforts for all 24 of the department’s intercollegiate athletic teams.  Kelly has a wide range of training experience from youth athletes in the private sector, Division I ice hockey, as well as professional and Olympic level competitors at the United States Olympic Training Center.

Performance enhancement comes from an athlete’s ability to remain healthy and their continued participation in their sport.  Training programs target injury reduction through balanced training, enhancing movement quality and strength/power development.  Movement selection is functional, ground-based, multi-joint and multi-planar.  Programs include but are not limited to strength, power, speed, mobility and recovery.

Kelly is a National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and is certified as a USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach.
