    2016 RIT Volleyball Girls All Skills Resident/Commuter Camp - July 11-14


    This camp is designed for all levels of volleyball athletes ages 10-18. Campers are divided onto courts by skill level, age and experience, which will provide the appropriate learning environment. You will get the instruction and training that is appropriate for you. Instruction and training includes the skills and techniques of serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking and individual defense. A variety of drills, games and competition will be used to put these techniques into practice with emphasis placed on court movement, ball control, and competition. This is a four-day (nine sessions) camp ideal for both learning and improvement. The fee includes tuition, housing (three nights), all meals and a camp T-shirt for residential.
    For commuters, the fee includes registration, some meals (lunch and dinner on 7/12 & 7/13, lunch on 7/14) and a camp T-shirt.

    2016 RIT Volleyball Camp Staff

    The advantage of attending our camps is the quality and experience of the coaching staff. In addition to the RIT coaching staff and players, the camp staff will consist of outstanding NCAA & NAIA collegiate coaches, high school coaches, club coaches as well as collegiate players. The maximum camper to counselor ratio will be 8:1. This allows each camper to also receive individual attention as well as small group instruction.

    RIT Head Coach Jim Lodes

    Jim Lodes completed his sixth season in his return as head coach of the RIT women's volleyball program in 2015 and tenth season overall. He returned to RIT in 2010 after serving as the head coach of the Tigers from 1991-1995. Lodes has the most career wins in the history of the RIT volleyball program with 292 wins. 

    Last season, the Tigers advanced to their fist Liberty League championship match and finished the overall season with 22 wins.  Sarah Szybist was named AVCA Third Team All American and the 2014 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic Third Team All American.  Kayla Wheeler earned 2014 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic Second Team All American. 

    In 2014, the Tigers advanced to their first Liberty League championship match and finished the overall season with 22 wins.  Sarah Szybist was named AVCA Third Team All American and the 2014 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic Third Team All American.  Kayla Wheeler earned 2014 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic Second Team All American.

     

    In 2013, the Tigers won 15 matches and Sarah Szybist was named AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, AVCA New York Region Freshman of the Year and ECAC Rookie of the Year.  In 2012, Lodes led the Tigers to 26 wins and a semi-final appearance in their second season in the Liberty League.  Cat Sullivan was named AVCA Honorable Mention All-American.  Cat Sullivan and Suzanne Jokajtys were named Capital One Academic All-American.  The Tigers won 17 matches in their inaugural season in the Liberty League in 2011.  In 2010 Lodes led RIT to a 22-16 mark, advancing to the Empire 8 Tournament for the eighth time in nine seasons.  In Addition, the squad won the team academic award at RIT for the 2010-11 season with the highest grade-point average among all 24 athletics teams.

    In his first stint at RIT, Lodes led the Tigers to the Division III national semifinals and a third-place finish in 1993, coaching three AVCA All-Americans (Liang Gaik Khaw, Kris Gray and Jen Polo), and three GTE Academic All-Americans (Liang Gaik Khaw, Kris Gray, and Lucy Emberg). He led the Tigers to three Empire Athletic Association titles in 1991, 1992, and 1993 and the New York State championship in 1991 and 1993.

    Before returning to RIT, Lodes spent four years as the head coach at the University at Buffalo.  While there, he helped Buffalo to a school record 10 consecutive Division I wins in 2006 and the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award in 2007-2008.

    Prior to Buffalo, Lodes was an assistant at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Highlights at UNC include the team reaching the Final Sixteen in 2002 and a No. 12 ranking in the final AVCA Poll.  He has also been the head coach at both Lees-McRae College and the College at Brockport.

    He has worked with junior Olympic teams, Empire State Games teams, served as a clinician, coached several area high school teams, and is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association.  Lodes is a 1993  graduate of SUNY Brockport.  He graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical education and sports management and currently lives in West Henrietta.

    Assistant Camp Director: 
    RIT Assistant Coach Roger Majeski


    Roger Majeski is in his fourth year as an assistant coach at RIT. His duties are to work primarily with offense and scouting opponents. Before joining the RIT coaching staff, Majeski was the Head Women's Volleyball Coach at Genesee Community College. In his 23 years as head coach at GCC, his teams won 17 Western New York Athletic conference titles, 11 consecutive NJCAA Region III - Division II championships, and participated in 12 NJCAA National volleyball championship tournaments. During his tenure at GCC, he coached 15 players who received All-American honors.

    Majeski is a nine-time NJCAA Region III Coach of the Year award and was the North East District Coach of the year 11 times. He has also received the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Coach of the Year three times. Majeski ranks first among NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Division II coaches for wins with 850, as is second overall among all NJCAA Division I, II and III coaches in victories.

    In 2013 Majeski was named Head Coach/General Manager of the first ever women's professional team from Western New York. That team won the Silver Division at the inaugural event for the new USA Volleyball sanctioned Premiere Volleyball League.

    He is also a founding member and tournament Director for the New York Outdoor Volleyball Association (NOVA). NOVA operates numerous beach volleyball events in the Western and Central New York regions. Roger is a State level PAVO Volleyball referee and has officiated high school and college matches for 30 years.


    Housing and Meals
    All overnight campers will be housed two per air conditioned room on the RIT campus. Healthy and nutritional meals are provided in the all you can eat campus dining halls. Other amenities include: cable TV in lounges, laundry facilities and are conveniently located to the camp facilities on campus.


    Facilities
    Camp sessions are conducted on the RIT campus. Facilities include Clark Gymnasium, Auxiliary Gym and the Student Life Center. The RIT Volleyball Camp allows the athlete to experience the university setting. Each session offers a unique opportunity for any young volleyball player to benefit from intensive volleyball instruction as well as exposure to the university community.

     

    Special features:

    • Campers who attend consecutive camps are offered FREE housing for the evening between camps.
    • Commuter campers should be picked up and dropped off at Clark Gym. Lunch and dinner meals are included daily for all commuters.
    • All campers receive a RIT Volleyball T-shirt (please indicate your size on the application form).
    • Overnight camper housing is included with registration fee.
    • Certified Athletic Trainer will be available at all times.
