Applying to RIT and interested in SSP supports?

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

The Spectrum Support Program serves a finite number of students each year.  The process for requesting service from SSP is based on your RIT application plans:  Early Decision I, Early Decision II, Regular Decision, or Transfer.  More information about RIT's Freshman Admission, Transfer Admission and Early Decision plans can be found here

Incoming students interested in working with the Spectrum Support Program (SSP) will:

  1. Choose a major and Apply to RIT;
  2. Fill out an SSP Application Request Form, the timing of which is determined by RIT application pool;
  3. Receive a link to submit SSP Application materials;
  4. Submit SSP Application materials by the deadline, based on your RIT application pool;
  5. Receive an SSP decision notification prior to RIT's posted deposit deadline for your application pool;
  6. Students accepted into SSP must formally indicate their intention to attend RIT and confirm their intention to utilize SSP services.

IMPORTANT TIMELINES for all RIT Applicant Pools

RIT EARLY DECISION (ED I and ED II) APPLICANTS:

  • You should submit an SSP Application Request Form as soon as you have applied to RIT
  • All application materials should be completed and submitted by November 1 (for ED I) or January 1st (for ED II)
  • Application materials received by the deadlines above will be reviewed and SSP decisions will be sent out prior to January 15th (ED I) or prior to February 15th (ED II)
  • Indicate your intention to attend RIT and formally confirm your intention to utilize SSP services as soon as you have made the decision to attend RIT or by May 1st

In keeping with RIT's Early Decision policy, if the Early Decision applicant changes their mind about Early Decision, they can request to be moved to the Regular Decision plan (see RIT's Early Decision Policies).

Applicants who don't follow the above timelines for Early Decision will be considered for SSP supports under the timelines set for Regular Decision applicants (below).

RIT REGULAR DECISION APPLICANTS:

  • You should submit an SSP Application Request Form once you have been accepted to RIT (you will be asked to provide a copy of your RIT decision notification offering you admittance to RIT)
  • All application materials must be completed and submitted by March 15th
  • Application materials will be reviewed and SSP decisions will be sent out before May 1st
  • Indicate your intention to attend RIT and formally confirm your intention to utilize SSP services by May 1st

RIT TRANSFER STUDENT APPLICANTS:

  • You should submit a SSP Application Request Form once you have been accepted to RIT (you will be asked to provide a copy of your RIT decision notification offering you admittance to RIT)
  • All application materials must be completed and submitted by March 15th
  • Application materials will be reviewed and SSP decisions will be sent out before May 1st
  • Indicate your intention to attend RIT and confirm your intention to utilize SSP services by May 1st

Please note: Although application and decision notifications for RIT transfer students are done on a rolling basis, SSP application decisions do not follow a rolling decision system. Transfer students wishing to apply for SSP services should plan accordingly.

Continuing at RIT and wishing to begin SSP supports?

Upper-class students who did not apply for SSP services as an incoming student but now wish to be considered for SSP should follow the process for Regular Decision applicants.  An SSP Application Request Form and all application materials must be completed and submitted to SSP by March 15th in order to be considered.

Continuing at RIT and wishing to continue SSP supports?

Once a student has applied and been offered a space in SSP, their annual request for services will be considered without full re-application.  Re-application for current or previously SSP supported students is only required in cases where there is a need to re-apply for admittance to RIT, such as after a suspension or extended leave of absence.  Students who must re-apply to SSP should follow the same process as those applying to RIT for the first time (described above).

Current SSP supported students must fill out the SSP Application Request Form by May 1st

PLEASE NOTE:  Students all students who have been offered a space in the program, including students currently receiving SSP support, must formally confirm their intention to utilize SSP services by May 1st.  Students who do not indicate their intention to utlizie SSP services by May 1st will forfeit their space and may be placed on a waitlist for services.
