Resistance Mapping project provides a digital home for antiracist educational resources for K-12 educators
Resistance Mapping is a local, collaborative digital humanities project focused on how Monroe County, N.Y., has been shaped by histories of institutional racism and collective community resistance. Scholars and students affiliated with RIT’s humanities, computing, and design program and the University of Rochester’s Digital Scholarship at River Campus Libraries helped create a website to host the educational content.

Industrial design MFA alumnus Pete St. John led the creation of two elements of The Strong National Museum of Play’s permanent exhibition “ESL Digital Worlds: Level Up.” This exhibit immerses visitors in an array of interactive video game environments.

Overcoming obstacles: Students’ game-changing product breaks barriers
Students in RIT’s Multidisciplinary Senior Design (MSD) program worked on The Overcomer, a patented device being used by children and adults with mobility challenges to play sports at the Special Olympics and in schools, nursing care facilities, sports leagues, and homes around the world.

RIT Battery Prototyping Center awarded more than $2 million
The Battery Prototyping Center at RIT was awarded nearly $2.2 million through the Empire State Development Grants program to expand its facility. Upgrades and expansion of the center will nearly double its current space, add new equipment, and increase training capacity in the areas of lithium-ion battery research, manufacturing, and development.

Astrophysicist Jason Nordhaus is breaking cultural and disciplinary boundaries by helping to grow the number of deaf, hard-of-hearing, and Hispanic researchers. And, in doing so, he is enabling these future scientists to drive discoveries in one of his areas of expertise—neutron star astrophysics.

World Bank leader tapped to lead The New York Climate Exchange on Governors Island
The New York Climate Exchange, a first-of-its-kind organization working to implement innovative climate solutions across the globe, has announced Stephen Hammer as its founding CEO. Rochester Bridges to the Doctorate partnership continues with grant to increase the number of deaf, hard-of-hearing scientists
A fruitful partnership between NTID and University of Rochester has earned a funding boost to help meet the long-term goals of the Bridges to the Doctorate for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students program. A grant from the National Institutes of Health will help increase the number of deaf and hard-of-hearing students entering Ph.D. programs in biomedical science fields and the number of deaf and hard-of-hearing students who successfully earn Ph.D.’s in biomedical sciences.
