CTL Has a New Website
The new CTL site launched over the summer (rit.edu/teaching). The site has been reorganized and more resources will be added over the coming months.

From the Executive Director
Colleagues, welcome back and happy New Year! We have two important announcements for you as you consider your teaching and learning endeavors.
First, I am delighted to welcome Dr. Sandi Connelly, Principal Lecturer, Thomas H. Gosnell School of Life Sciences, College of Science, who will be joining our team as Interim Associate Director of CTL. Sandi will be working closely with our leadership team, CTL Council, and our inaugural Faculty Fellows to help prepare faculty to teach successfully in the SHED, beta-SHED classrooms, and beyond. Sandi will also assist in the development of new training programs for faculty in the areas of active learning approaches across all class sizes and disciplines and lead several communities of practice around best practice teaching techniques.

Second, we are pleased to welcome eight inaugural Faculty Fellows across six disciplines and in two areas of strategic priorities to the fold including:

The Fellows will focus on advancing teaching excellence in their respective disciplines, identify strategic teaching and learning priorities, and participate in faculty training and teaching improvement programs for the university.
Please join us in congratulating our faculty in these inaugural positions which help ensure the transition from ILI to CTL puts teaching and learning at the center of our work.

Save the Dates for Active Learning Sessions with Andy Gerhart
CTL will be hosting virtual and in-person sessions on active learning with Andy Gerhart, Professor - Mechanical, Robotics, and Industrial Engineering - Lawrence Technological University. There will be a virtual session on Friday, September 9th from 1 pm – 2 pm followed by in-person sessions on October 17th and 18th. More information and registration information for these events will be coming out in the coming weeks from CTL.
Call for Applications: Fall 2022 GOLD Program
CTL’s Guided Online Learning Development (GOLD) program is designed to prepare RIT faculty for online teaching in both asynchronous and synchronous formats.
GOLD participants will:
- Engage in and contribute to a faculty cohort in designing and teaching online courses
- Attend five 90-minute professional development workshops, conducted either face-to-face and/or Zoom, depending on the preferences of the majority
- Receive an enhanced level of support for instructional design and technology

The Office of Educational Effectiveness Assessment is sponsoring two faculty-led learning communities for those teaching Social and Global perspective courses. Interested faculty will explore topics specific to each perspective and discuss assignment design, teaching methods, and ideas for engaging students.
