Move-In and Orientation

What to Expect and Move-In and Orientation

Move-in and Orientation will be here before you know it! Our What to Expect videos walk you through everything you need to know before arriving on campus with your student. RIT staff share move-in tips, highlight Welcome Days events, and provide an overview of what students can expect as they begin their RIT journey.

Welcome Days Schedule

Our Orientation program kicks off with our Welcome Days on Monday, August 17, and Tuesday, August 18. The purpose of Welcome Days is to introduce you to campus, provide opportunities to meet other new RIT families, and have time to help your student settle in. Programming is very flexible to accommodate each family’s individual needs. Even if your student is moving in Tuesday morning, we encourage you to join us on Monday to take advantage of the full range of Welcome Days opportunities designed for students and families.

First-year students and Transfer students participating in Transfer Orientation Program #2 will begin their Orientation experience at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, so be sure to say your goodbyes by then!

Student Orientation Schedule

Please remind your student to download the RIT CampusGroups app before Orientation to access their Orientation schedule and sign in at Orientation events. Instructions for downloading the app and accessing their schedule are available on the Orientation website.

Virtual Orientation

Please check in with your student to confirm they have completed RIT Virtual Orientation. This mandatory orientation experience provides students with important information, including an introduction to services and resources, and helps them successfully launch their RIT journey. They should complete all modules by the start of RIT’s in-person Orientation. Parents can also view the Virtual Orientation using the guest login.

Move-In Instructions

If your student is living in RIT housing, please make sure they confirm their appointment time in the myRIT portal and print their move-in dashboard pass a before arriving on campus. Please arrive at the move-in day and time your student selected to help ensure a smooth and efficient move-in experience for all students and families.

Please review the detailed Move-In information available online, including maps, arrival instructions, and packing checklists. Keep in mind that the move-in process may vary based on whether your student is a first-year or transfer student, as well as their assigned housing location.

Let's Talk About It

How can we celebrate the big move before we hit the road?

With less than two weeks until Move-In, be sure to set aside some family time to celebrate and say goodbye.

How often should we talk when you're at school?

While your communication habits will likely shift as both you and your student get accustomed to your student being at RIT, it helps to set communication expectations early.

Chelsea Petree

Sincerely,
