Virtual Orientation Platform
Please remind your student to complete the RIT Virtual Orientation. This mandatory orientation experience provides students with important information, including an introduction to services, resources, and help them successfully launch their RIT journey. They should complete all modules by the start of RIT’s in-person Orientation, August 22. Parents can also view the Virtual Orientation as a guest.
Immunization Reminder
New York State law mandates that all college students provide proof of vaccinations. If you haven’t already, make sure your student is up-to-date on immunizations and has submitted their completed forms to the Student Health Center prior to arrival in August. More information can be found on the Student Health Center website.
Health Insurance Update
Student health insurance information and rates are now available. Our apologies for sharing information last month before it was live.
RIT expects all students to have health insurance. Health insurance coverage ensures that your student receives the appropriate medical care in the event of an injury or illness that requires prescription medication, a referral to a specialist, or even hospitalization. Health insurance may be obtained through the university,
or through family or individual policies.
If your student will use a family plan, please contact the company to determine what coverage your student has in Rochester, as many companies have limited out-of-network coverage. The Student Health Center has put together a list of services
to review with your insurance company to ensure your student has the coverage they need during their time at RIT.
If your student will not be on a family plan, RIT offers a robust student health insurance plan with an expansive provider network across the U.S. and out-of-network benefits.
University Advising
The new academic workload in college can be a shock for many students, and some struggle developing and implementing time management and study skills. There are many academic support services
at RIT, including college-specific support options. One primary resource your student can rely on is their academic advisor. Advisors can help incoming students transition to RIT, understand and navigate their curriculum, connect to RIT resources, and integrate into the community. Students new to the university will meet their primary academic advisor during Orientation and are required to meet with their advisor during their first year in order to build their advising relationship and plan for success. NTID-supported students are also assigned an additional advisor who can provide personal, social, career, and academic counseling services that are available to deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Students can find their academic advisors listed on SIS.
