CHAI Research Talk: Nicola Lanatà, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, RIT

When: November 06, 2023, 12:00 pm–1:00 pm
Where: Golisano Hall, GOL CYB-1710/1720

The simulation of strongly correlated matter remains a major challenge in condensed matter physics, due to the high computational cost of existing methods. In this seminar, I will present a new approach that combines quantum-embedding frameworks with active learning techniques to overcome this obstacle. The active learning component allows for bypassing the most computationally expensive parts of quantum-embedding algorithms, rendering them more efficient and cost-effective. Preliminary data of the Hubbard model will be presented, illustrating the accuracy and potential of the method. The proposed framework opens up new possibilities in condensed matter physics, chemistry, and materials science.

Students deliver multispectral imaging system to The State Archives in Dubrovnik

With the technology nestled safely in her 55-liter carry-on bag, Izzy Moyer made her way across the globe earlier this month to deliver MISHA, a low-cost multispectral imaging system, to The State Archives in Dubrovnik in Croatia. MISHA, or the Multispectral Imaging System for Historical Artifacts, was developed by RIT experts to uncover object details that aren’t visible to the naked eye.

Call for Proposals: Love Data Lightning Talks 2024

International Love Data Week is right around the corner, and RIT Libraries is looking for faculty or graduate level participants to give quick 10 minute presentations for our lightning talk event. Love Data is an international celebration and awareness campaign hosted by the Institute for Social Research at University of Michigan and is designed to build community and understanding around research data.

This year's theme is “My kind of Data”, which focuses on data equity, inclusion, and creating a kinder world through data. We encourage presentations that fit the theme, but welcome any projects that work with data, such as examples of how data is collected or used within your research. This call for proposals is open to all disciplines and stages of completion with preference given to graduate students.

The event will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 9:00–10:30 AM (Eastern Time) in WAL-2410 and via zoom for international students.
