CHAI Research Talk: Catherine Schuman, PhD, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

When: September 11, 2023, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Abstract: Neuromorphic computing is a popular technology for the future of computing. Much of the focus in neuromorphic computing research and development has focused on new architectures, devices, and materials, rather than in the software, algorithms, and applications of these systems. In this talk, I will overview the field of neuromorphic from the computer science perspective. I will give an introduction to spiking neural networks, as well as some of the most commign algorithms used in the field. Finally, I will discuss the potential for using neuromorphic systems in real-world applications from scientific data analysis to autonomous vehicles.

Metaproject 14 gives students a chance to leave their mark on the RIT campus landscape

Every year, students enrolled in RIT’s Metaproject course are tasked with creating designs for outside clients, which have ranged from Umbra,  Herman Miller, and even Sesame Workshop. For Metaproject 14, instead of working with an outside client, students will work with RIT President David Munson to design concepts for a series of outdoor, hands-on museum installations for the university’s Henrietta campus.

Applications Now Open for the 2023 Chicagoland STEM Postdoc Recruitment Initiative!

Northwestern University, the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), and the University of Chicago (UChicago) are excited to announce that applications are now open for the second annual Chicagoland Diverse STEM Postdoc Recruitment Initiative! 

This is a collaborative event that seeks to improve diversity and inclusion at the three largest research universities in the Chicago area (Northwestern University, UIC, UChicago). The goals of this program are to: 

  • Improve the “pipeline” pathway in STEM for historically marginalized graduate students and postdocs.
  • Recruit and retain individuals from groups underrepresented in academia and the sciences, including individuals from the following communities: underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds, the disabled community, the LGBTQIA+ community, and the first-gen community.

Counseling and Psychological Services - Anxiety Toolbox Workshop Sessions

Anxiety Toolbox is a three-session workshop, designed to provide participants with a comprehensive set of practical tools and strategies for effectively managing and coping with anxiety. 

Learn and understand your anxiety, and develop skills to manage it over 3 workshop sessions. It starts on September 22nd, Friday at 12 PM until October 6th. Find details and register via the link.
