Accomplishments from Saunders Students

  • Evan Macko ‘25 (finance), Carter Ptak ‘25 (software engineering), and Rosa Kauffman ‘27 (Japanese) won the 2024 Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge as the “Tigers Trading” team. The interdisciplinary RIT team, advised by finance and accounting associate professor Hao Zhang, placed first among 2,453 teams from 396 universities in 46 countries.

  • Alec Waight-Morabito ‘24 (global business management) was featured on Spectrum News on New Year's Eve as part of their Getting mentally and physically fit segment on New Year's Resolutions regarding health and fitness. Alec was interviewed about his fitness journey and overcoming a debilitating autoimmune disease.

Saunders Faculty and Staff Go Above and Beyond

  • Victor Perotti, professor in the Department of MIS, Marketing, and Analytics, joined the Rochester Business Journal’s virtual panel AI for Business in December. The panel covered emerging trends and challenges in artificial intelligence, offering insights into its impact on business policies and practices.

  • Somail Bains ‘91 (MBA) will join the Saunders department of finance and accounting as an adjunct professor beginning January 2025. Bains is the director of sales operations at Integron, in Pittsford, NY.

  • Carlo Candalla, chief financial officer at Healthcare Commons, Inc., in Carney’s Point, NJ, will join the Saunders department of finance and accounting as an adjunct professor beginning January 2025.

  • John Tu, Ph.D., senior associate dean and professor of management information systems, and Quang “Neo” Bui, Ph.D, associate professor in the department of MIS, marketing, and analytics, working with undergraduate students from RIT China and Saunders College, co-authored a paper that received the Best Paper Runner-Up Award at the 34th Annual Workshop of the AIS Special Interest Group on Adoption and Diffusion of Information Technology, at the 2024 ICIS conference in Bangkok, Thailand. This paper grew out of Tu and Bui’s Global Faculty Research Grant, “Online Communities in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Evidence from China and the U.S.”

  • Muhammet Kesgin, Ph.D., associate professor in the department of international hospitality and service innovation, published an article, “Legacy Matters: Encouraging Willingness to Pay a Premium for Environmentally Friendly Off-Premises Food Packaging, ” in the International Journal of Hospitality Management.

  • Sheri Watkins ’18 (MBA) will join the Saunders department of finance and accounting as an adjunct professor beginning January 2025. Watkins is the chief of finance for Coordinated Care Services, Inc., Monroe County Office of Mental Health.

Alumni News and Recognitions

  • Noah Blankenship ‘20 (MBA) was interviewed by NHL.com for a feature about NHL in ASL, which Blankenship broadcasts. The telecast provides real-time coverage of play-by-play and color commentary for hockey games in American Sign Language. Blankenship works at the Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services in Denver, CO.

  • Designers leave nothing on the table during the Beyond Fashion showcase. Decked out with technicolor lights and vibrant animated displays, RIT’s MAGIC Spell Studios soundstage became a runway during Beyond Fashion, with the help of dozens of RIT and Saunders students.

  • EMBA student leverages RIT for inclusive leadership growth. Chris Soukup, a graduate student in the RIT Executive MBA program, is the CEO of Communication Service for the Deaf, a nonprofit organization that provides resources and services to benefit the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community in the employment sector.

  • Distinguished Alumni Award winners named for 2024-2025. CEOs, Chief Financial Officers, and Chief Technology Officers are among the 12 RIT alumni honored with Distinguished Alumni Awards for the 2024-2025 year.

  • Carrying coach's lacrosse lessons into life. Jake Coon has turned RIT men’s lacrosse into a national powerhouse. Coon, though, prefers to talk about the 15 classes of leaders he helped shape and the assistant coaches, including Saunders graduate Shawn Wilkins, who worked with him to build a top-notch program.

  • WITR: Come for the music, stay for the community. Nestled in the basement of the Student Alumni Union, the WITR radio station space is a treasure trove of music, personalities, and nostalgia. The station and the music have greatly evolved since its first broadcast in 1961, but one thing has remained constant: the tight-knit network of students and alumni, including chief engineer Remy Rattner '26 (management information systems).

  • 2024 DECA Region #10 High School Competition. Over 900 DECA students competed in the New York State Region #10 High School DECA Competition hosted by RIT's Saunders College of Business.
