GYT Get Yourself Tested

Get Yourself Tested (GYT)

Did you know many sexually transmitted infections (STI) have no symptoms? The only way you can be sure of your status is to Get Yourself Tested. If you are sexually active, you should be tested every six months. Register for an STI screening at the Student Health Center on campus next week, from Feb. 28-Mar. 4.

How to GYT:

  • Log in to the RIT Wellness Portal
  • Select Schedule Appt. under the Appt. Scheduling drop-down menu
  • Select 1-STI Screening Week (Feb 28-March 4 only) under Reason for appointment

Not available for an appointment during GYT week? No problem.
You can find everything you need at the Student Health Center on campus year-round. The Student Health Center is a non-judgmental space for confidential screenings of all sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, Syphilis, Chlamydia, & Gonorrhea, as well as treatment and prevention of STIs. You can stop by the office to pick up free condoms (both latex and non-latex), dental dams, and lubrication upon request.

Plus, you can drop in at the Sexual Health Buffet in the Student Health Center Conference Room during GYT week to build your own Play It Safe kit – a discreet kit for all your safe sex supply needs.

        Love yourself first this season!

It’s the season of love! Have you been practicing enough self-love?

Dr. Borenstein from the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation defines self-love as, “a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth.” This can mean different things to different people!

So where can you start? Start practicing self-love by extending the same kindness, compassion, and understanding to yourself that you would show to a friend. Carve out time for self-care; start small - just do one nice thing for yourself this week!

Each week, we are sharing a financial wellness tip to help you make the connection between financial management decisions, your overall wellness, and student success. Money touches every aspect of our lives, and a lack of financial literacy can cause unnecessary stress and negatively impact our mental and physical health.

        Credit and Job Searching

The Career Fair is quickly approaching, and something you might not realize is your credit may be a factor that is considered by potential employers. While employers don’t have access to your credit score, they might request a credit report for insight into your credit history.

According to a 2018 HR.com report, 95% of companies conduct some type of background check on potential employees, while 16% pull credit or financial checks on all job candidates and almost one-third do credit checks on some candidates.

Keep in mind, thanks to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), employers can’t check your credit history without your consent. So what does this mean for you? You can request a FREE copy of your credit report and read about what is impacting your score. After seeing the factors affecting your credit, you can make a plan to improve it.

        Quick Credit Facts:

        • A Credit Report is like your “financial report card.” One of the three main credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion) compiles information about you and your financial history.
        • A Credit Score is a 3 digit number between 300 and 850 calculated by one of the three credit bureaus to gauge your creditworthiness.
        • The first step for any credit improvement plan is to review your free Credit Report from one of the three credit bureaus and review it for accuracy/correct any errors. PRO TIP: There is a large amount of confidential information on this report, so make sure that you use a secure personal and/or trusted computer!
