Saunders College of Business Hosts 3rd Women's Leadership Weekend

Saunders College of Business recently hosted its third annual Women's Leadership Weekend, featuring two dynamic events centered on resilience and empowerment. The Power Your Potential Women's Conference on February 28th embraced the theme "From Setback to Strength: Navigating Adversity with Resilience," with keynote speaker Eva Ames '09 (mechanical engineering), vice president of global key accounts for the automotive and mobility enterprise vertical at DSV, sharing how her engineering background helps her challenge industry norms at DSV.

Conference Highlights:

  • Event and panel moderated by Phillippa Thiuri, assistant vice president for Academic Access and Success
  • Workshop on managing your energy, not your time led by Sue Piotrowski '95 MS (career and human resource development), founder and president of BadFish Consulting
  • Fermenting Strength workshop with chef and professor Melanie Kerr '12 (hospitality and service management), an established chef, professor, and event planner
  • From Setback to Strength: Navigating Adversity with Resilience Panel featuring personal resilience stories from: 
    • Milagros Concepcion ’92 (economics), ’07 MBA, associate vice president controller and assistant treasurer at RIT - overcoming barriers in finance
    • Shayla Scott ’16 (accounting), ’17 MBA, senior manager at MMB & Co. - navigating early career challenges
    • Heather Smith - CEO and COO of Velocitii - rebuilding confidence after setbacks

The Women's Leadership Summit on March 1st, hosted by the Leadership Academy@Saunders, focused on inclusion and empowerment for high school and college students. Award-winning poet Kim B. Miller ’85 (business administration retail management) delivered an inspiring keynote address, while attendees engaged with accomplished speakers including Jacqueline Nicholson, Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, and Kendra Evans, Director of Spectrum Support Programs.

"This weekend embodied our commitment to empowering women in leadership roles" reflected Dean Jacqueline Mozrall, highlighting the connections formed across generations of leaders and reinforcing that resilience is at the heart of great leadership.
