Get RIT Ready

You probably know that college is different than high school. At RIT, you’ll take ownership of your experience. Show up, be curious, and keep moving forward when things do not go as planned. Mistakes are part of how we learn here.

Supports are plentiful on campus. Don’t hesitate to access them. Ask questions. Make connections.  Reaching out for help is expected, and it’s one of the smartest things you can do.

Hot topic: Fall course schedules

Your primary academic advisor and academic department will create your first semester course schedule, which will be available for viewing in early August. The schedule is designed to fulfill general education and program requirements.

Complete the following New Student Checklist items by Tuesday, June 30, so your department can build your schedule.

  • Submit your final transcripts
Submit your final transcripts and check your admissions portal to see if official test scores are needed.

  • Take the Math Placement Exam
To ensure you embark on the right path, all incoming first-year students* must take a Math Placement Exam. This essential assessment evaluates your current math skills, helping us place you in the course that best matches your level of knowledge and ability.

*Math Placement Exam requirements vary by program and student type. Check your New Student Checklist to confirm what’s required for you.

  • Complete the College Survey
When the College Survey becomes available, an email with a link will be sent to your RIT email account.

If your academic department has questions related to planning and placement for fall courses, they will contact you. Check your RIT email regularly, as communications may be time-sensitive.

There will be time during Orientation to talk with your advisor about your schedule.

Computer Recommendations

A close-up shot shows a person's hands typing on a silver laptop keyboard. The person's forearms, clad in a red long-sleeved shirt, are visible as their fingers rest over the black keys of the laptop.

To help you choose the right device for your program, the RIT Campus Store has compiled computer recommendations by college so you can purchase with confidence.

As an Apple® Authorized Campus Store, the RIT Campus Store offers exclusive RIT education pricing on Mac and iPad products. Dell PCs, RIT apparel and merchandise, tech accessories, and a wide range of school, art, and photo supplies are available for purchase online or in-store.

Entrance to the RIT Campus Store inside a bright, modern campus building. A large sign reading “RIT Campus Store” hangs above an open retail area with clothing, merchandise, and displays visible inside.

You'll receive your course schedule in early August, along with more information about course materials and purchase options through our online bookstore.

Explore and connect with necessary resources

Many of the supports you had in high school are also available at RIT. In college, you will take the lead to register for support services. Review available services and connect with the Disability Services Office for accommodations, or the Department of Access Services if you are a Deaf or hard-of-hearing student in need of interpreting, note-taking, and real-time captioning support. Reaching out early helps RIT support you and helps you feel prepared.
