The Future of Research Assessment for Scholarship, Retention, Tenure, and Promotion

NASEM and National Science Foundation are among the many entities suggesting that it’s time for a reassessment of scholarship policies at Universities to allow for a broader set of evaluative criteria beyond the “traditional” models of peer review, journal publications and conference presentations. Join us for a discussion of what other models currently exist, what your college and unit’s policies are, and where you’d like them to be. Bring your questions, stories, and concerns to the conversation!

Student designs to be featured at Autodesk University

RIT students often benefit from collaborating with clients outside of the university for class projects. A current collaboration between RIT’s industrial design program and Autodesk will soon extend beyond the classroom, as Autodesk plans to manufacture student designs to be used at the company’s signature annual conference, Autodesk University.

MAGIC Spell Studios teams show off at national Game Developer’s Conference and PAX East

Hannah Bailin, fourth-year new media design student and film and animation (3D animation option) MFA student Graziela Larroca both travelled to GDC in San Francisco in late March to present the game That Damn Goat. When explaining her experience at GDC, Larroca, who is from Syracuse, N.Y., and who works as the student lead environmental artist for That Damn Goat, said “I felt like I really belonged in this industry. Seeing the smaller booths for the indie studios and the colleges and what they were presenting was also exciting because it makes it feel more real, like it’s something that is achievable for someone like me, because there’s people my age or with similar backgrounds, and they’re crushing it. For someone that wants to continue making games in the future, that’s really exciting.”

Artificial intelligence, robots, glass blowing, drones, cybersecurity tours, and performing arts are just a sampling of what lies in store for the thousands of visitors expected at this year’s Imagine RIT: Creativity and Innovation Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 29.

Since 2008, the campus at Rochester Institute of Technology has welcomed tens of thousands of visitors one day each spring to get a glimpse of the creativity and innovation that RIT students, faculty, and staff have every day.

Year One Programs is currently hiring Facilitators for the RIT 365 course for Fall 2023! Becoming a Facilitator is a great way to connect with the RIT community (particularly first-year students), enhance your leadership and critical thinking skills, and further your own self-awareness. Graduate students interested in applying for the Staff role must already have earned a master’s degree by the start of the semester. Students in 4+1 graduate programs are eligible to apply for the Peer role. Learn more and apply here!
